what to wear?
our guide to help you prepare for your session

Clothing
Clothing selection is probably one of the biggest and often times most difficult decision you need to make regarding the whole senior portrait process. If you wear the right outfit, it improves your confidence in front of the camera and helps to make your photo phenomenal. The exact opposite can happen if you select the wrong outfit. Due to our experience with this, we have come with some suggestions to help make your photo session the best

Styles that photograph well and our classics:

Women:
  • Dresses... Summer dresses or maxi dresses are great in pictures. Especially in a nice summer color.
  • Button collard tops or solid colored tops or t's with dark washed jeans. Add heels and a jacket for a great look.
Men:
  • Solid colored polo tops with dark jeans.
  • Solid colored or minimal design t's are great also.
  • Blazers, jackets, etc. are great
For examples , please go to our image gallery.

Don't:
Don't wear an excessive amounts of prints, designs, bold stripes, etc. This will definitely distract from your face which is the focus. Also the prints, designs can clash with our backgrounds which will limit your background selection.

Do:
If you do wear prints, designs, etc., make it one piece of the outfit. For example, print top, solid colored bottoms. Try to stay away from prints, patterns that are bold and overwhelming. We recommend more subtle designs.

Do:
We do recommend solid colors. Solid colored tops, jackets, bottoms, etc. This photographs very well.

Do:
We also recommend varying the solid 'colors'. Stay current with the trends. Fall season is approaching raspberry is a hot color this fall. Throw in a raspberry shirt, or a purple scarf to help add more to the outfit. Nice vibrant colors look great in photos.

Do:
Do wear jewelry. We love jewelry. Bracelets, Necklaces, Earrings so bring it.

Don't:
Try to stay away from mini skirts. This will hender the versatility and creativity on our end.

makeup
Makeup should be slightly heavier than normal. We do not want you too made up. Please avoid makeup with sparkles in it. Shimmer makeup is great in person, but does not photograph well. It creates little white spots that resembles a pimple. Also, try to avoid makeup with an spf in it. Another one that is good in person but on camera the spf tends to create a shine.

**Images By Andre offers makeup consultation and makeup application services. Please request this service during the booking process. Images By Andre strongly recommends at least minimal makeup at the photo session. Makeup tends to enhance the overall picture however, there are some dos and donts in the makeup area.

Don't:
Wear so much makeup that you look like an entirely different person.

Do:
Wear enough makeup to enhance your overall look.

Do:
If you do nothing else, please, please wear lipgloss. Dry, bare lips just do not photograph very well.

Do:
We also recommend mascara. Mascara helps to open your eyes and is great in photos.

Don't:
Wear old mascara with clumps. Not a good look in picture or in person!!

Do:
Bring translucent powder. The powder will help minimize the shine that will eventually occur.

shoes
Don't: Don't focus too hard on the shoes as for the most part the shoes will not be in the picture. However, try to stay away from bright white sneakers when pairing with medium to dark colored pants or tops.

Don't: Stay clear of white socks as they do not look great in photographs. Please wear medium to dark colored socks instead.

glasses:
most glasses glare! some prescriptions more than others. your best bet is to wear contacts or check with your optometrist as most will "loan" you an empty set of frames similar to yours for your photo session.

pets
unfortunately pets are not allowed in the building.

Miscellaneous tips
  • Clothing simplicity is the key to a successful portrait. However, with the simple clothing, accessorize! Belts, scarfs, jewelry all are dynamic in the photo.
  • Try to steer clear of clothes that are overwhelming or will draw attention away from your face which is the focus of the picture.
  • darker clothes minimize body size.
  • Long sleeves are preferred.
  • Try not to mix light and dark colors in same outfit.
  • Be yourself. Bring outfits that compliment your overall skin tone, body frame, etc.
