classic white

April 11, 2007

i had been thinking about changing the white wall in the studio to a more vibrant color but now i think i will always have a white wall just so that i can take those classic shots…you know the type of pictures that will never go out of style.

this mother and daughter session prove to me that there should always be a place for ‘classic white’

of course a little color never hurt anybody

101 task in 1001 days

April 2, 2007

The Mission: Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria: Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Why 1001 Days? Many people have created lists in the past — frequently simple goals such as new year’s resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organizing and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

Goal setting tips

  1. Be decisive. Know exactly what you want, why you want it, and how you plan to achieve it.
  2. Stay Focussed. Any goal requires sustained focus from beginning to end. Constantly evaluate your progress.
  3. Welcome Failure. Frequently, very little is learned from a venture that did not experience failure in some form. Failure presents the opportunity to learn and makes the success more worthy.
  4. Write down your goals. It clarifies your thinking and reinforces your commitment.
  5. Keep your goals in sight. Review them frequently, and ensure that they are always at the forefront of your thinking.

i have decided to take this challenge and create a list of things i want to accomplish over the next 3 years. i am not so sure if i want to publish them simply because i’d be too embarrassed to reveal what i need to do like, clean out the garage, finish installing the last remaining tiles….bench press — lbs!, run in a 5k race, then 10k, take jordyn and shandrea to a nascar event, get back to 175lbs, read through the entire bible in 90 days, get my brush waves back… you know what? i will publish my list this week so look for it.

jury selection

January 10, 2007

“getting out of jury duty is easy. the trick is to say you’re prejudiced against all races.”
~ homer simpson

i guess homer’s advice didn’t work as i was selected for jury duty and not only that i made the ‘final’ 12

i am excited about the whole process and seeing how it compares to television. the one thing that immediately caught my attention was that the lawyers were not as well polished as their hollywood actors one of them seem to struggle putting sentences together it wasn’t broken english but more like starting a thought…then changing the thought…then coming back to the original thought.

anyway, it seemed like the judge, prosecutor and defense attorney kept coming back to me about some statements i made. i wonder what i said…..;-)

i haven’t photographed a lot of children simply because i am not exactly sure what my style will be for children as i would want to avoid the dreaded sears/wal-mart look. so what do you do…pose children, capture them naturally or a mixture of both?

some photographers are really great with children…i am just now sure if i am one. i guess i could always practice on jordyn some more as i haven’t taken any pictures of her since our wedding!
