White Bottoms!!!

April 19, 2007

Andre asked me the other day when is it ok to wear white pants.  And it got me thinking about all the people who wear white pants and those who are doing it right and others………well let’s just keep this post positive!!  White is a very pretty color to wear in the spring and summer.  It has a very fresh, vibrant and clean look.  And that is the topic of this post is how to wear white keeping the look fresh, fun and my favorite word classic or timeless.  The number one mistake you can make is not wearing the right material under your white pants – if you get what I mean!  With white pants, you can see everything ladies – especially when the sun is out.  Do society a favor by not showing us your “Victoria’s Secret”!   If you can do that, you are well on your way to a nice look.

Below are some examples of how to wear white bottoms:

You can’t go wrong with a white suit.  You can wear to the office but I like this look out at night.  Paired with the right shoes, handbag and jewelry - very NICE!  If you think the black top with a white suit is too 1970’s – John Travolta disco era – then pair with another color.  I’m thinking a chocolate cami would look nice.

ralph1.jpg White top and bottom – classic look.  Add a metallic bracelet to complete the look.   Or to make this look a little more casual – add a jean jacket.

white shorts1.jpg White and black together is timeless.  I like the black jacket paired with the shorts. That’s nice if you’re going on a vacation - Islands, Miami or even Vegas.

patterened top1.jpg       linen trousers1.jpg   Color with white is pretty when done right.  The key to pulling this look off is try not to wear bold, bright colors with a bright white bottom.  You can easily cross the line from trendy to tacky.  With an outfit like this – minimal accessories are required.  Possibly a small bracelet is only needed.

Fashion tip:  When you wear white, you will be noticed.  Don’t distract or overdo it with your jewelry – more is definitely less.  Metallic jewelry looks really nice with white.

Please note – all fashion tips are only my opinions!  And yes the whole theory of “you can’t wear white after labor day” is so 1960’s – but I will say that there is a different type of white you should wear in the fall and winter.  Its called winter white!

Until next week………………S.

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes

April 11, 2007

You can not talk about fashion without mentioning shoes.  Shoes, in my opinion, is the lifeline of fashion.  They can either make or break an outfit.  You can wear the hottest outfit, but if your shoes are a hot mess, you have committed the unexcusable and unforgivable fashion sin!

If you have been to any shoe store within the last couple of months – then you already know that the trend right now are platform shoes.  Platforms are everywhere and they are so many different styles and they are so versatile that you just can’t wrong.  I will admit, when platforms first came on the scene, I wasn’t a lover of them.  I am a 4 inch stilletto loving women and the platforms were too chunky for me.  But recently they have updated them and some of my favorite shoes are my platforms and since they are now making platform stillettos, I am in shoe heaven.   Lets take a look at some of the styles:

Classic Platform Pump

Christian platforms.jpg            brown plat (J. Simpson).jpg          patent platform (Steve Madden).jpg

As you can see they have incorporated my stilletto heel which makes these my favorite.  These can be worn with just about anything – jeans, skirts, dresses, suits and shorts.  What is so great about the classic pump is they can be worn at the office or out at night.

Sexy slingback!

If you have nice legs, you can pull these off with a pencil skirt or shorts.  Shorts with platform heels -that’s what its all about!

Poppin peep toe!

Peep toe pumps takes the classic pump to a new level.  Just like the pumps, these shoes can be worn in the office or out at night.  Unless you work for my company where OPEN TOE ISN’T ALLOWED:-( That’s another topic!  My opinion peep toe shoes look really nice with a fun dress.

 Other styles:

I could go on forever showing the various styles of platforms shoes.  Just know that these shoes are the top picks for this spring and summer and they come in so many styles, prints and colors.  There is no reason why every woman can’t have a pair in her closet – unless you just don’t wear heels.

Until next week……………..S.

conquering your fears

April 11, 2007

i rarely do (well ok…i never have) any fashion sessions so when the opportunity presents itself one must take advantage of it. after everything was done i realized that shooting models (wink wink leann) is a lot easier than shooting portraits because the model already knows what she wants.

btw: what do you think about the clothes?

classic white

April 11, 2007

i had been thinking about changing the white wall in the studio to a more vibrant color but now i think i will always have a white wall just so that i can take those classic shots…you know the type of pictures that will never go out of style.

this mother and daughter session prove to me that there should always be a place for ‘classic white’

of course a little color never hurt anybody

Hello Spring!!!

April 4, 2007

Spring is an excellent time to revamp everything – from cleaning your house, making plans for the summer and re-organizing your closet. I truly enjoy fashion – clothing, shoes, makeup, accessories. So every week I will post a fashion tip – what’s hot for the upcoming season. Here’s the first one:

This spring and summer is all about colors – bold colors – and it appears that all colors are really in this season. But the topic of discussion this week is yellow. Yellow is becoming my favorite this season and what is so great about it is there are so many different shades of yellow – that everyone, no matter what skin tone can get into it. The key with pulling off yellow is to make it an accent color in your wardrobe – too much yellow will have you loking like a banana!

For example: Pairing a yellow shirt with a pair of dark-washed jeans is a classic yet trendy look.

Another way to incorporate this trend is by adding yellow accessories to your outfit. Note: accessories can transform any old outfit into the current trend. By just adding a yellow bracelet or a yellow handbag will turn your boring, everyday outfit into something fresh, young and vibrant. So instead of spending a lot money trying to update your wardrobe, adding accessories will take your outfit from blah to FIERCE!

Or you can rock some yellow platform heels.

Note: I wouldn’t wear yellow shoes with a yellow shirt – too matchy – matchy. You will be looking like a banana in no time! The tip to rocking yellow shoes is to allow the shoe to be the focal point of the outfit by pairing the shoes with a neutral and simple shape outfit. For instance, a white shirt w/ a black pencil skirt with yellow shoes will add that nice pop of color. It will turn such a classic look into something young, fun and trendy.

101 task in 1001 days

April 2, 2007

The Mission: Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria: Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Why 1001 Days? Many people have created lists in the past — frequently simple goals such as new year’s resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organizing and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

Goal setting tips

  1. Be decisive. Know exactly what you want, why you want it, and how you plan to achieve it.
  2. Stay Focussed. Any goal requires sustained focus from beginning to end. Constantly evaluate your progress.
  3. Welcome Failure. Frequently, very little is learned from a venture that did not experience failure in some form. Failure presents the opportunity to learn and makes the success more worthy.
  4. Write down your goals. It clarifies your thinking and reinforces your commitment.
  5. Keep your goals in sight. Review them frequently, and ensure that they are always at the forefront of your thinking.

i have decided to take this challenge and create a list of things i want to accomplish over the next 3 years. i am not so sure if i want to publish them simply because i’d be too embarrassed to reveal what i need to do like, clean out the garage, finish installing the last remaining tiles….bench press — lbs!, run in a 5k race, then 10k, take jordyn and shandrea to a nascar event, get back to 175lbs, read through the entire bible in 90 days, get my brush waves back… you know what? i will publish my list this week so look for it.
